Default Electrical gremlins

Hello all! I have an 05 ZT 160 (1.8t) which has developed various electrical faults, namely the speedo freezing, wipers being non-responsive or stopping at the top of the windscreen, and the cluster displaying various faults like airbag or brake failure.

I have tried disconnecting the battery for an hour or so, but the issues keep coming back.

Any ideas of the likely cause or what system controls all these things?

Yes! You have water present somewhere, this upsets the kbus line and causes the issue you describe.

Do you have highline navigation or a sunroof?

Heavy rain seems to play tricks with mine. Last time we had it the offside indicator repeater ( the one just in front of the driver's door) came on and stayed on showing a constant amber light even when the ignition had been turned off for several hours. No other lights were affected and it cleared itself after the rain stopped.

As Trikey says, it sounds like a K-bus problem. Are the faults evident during or just after rain or car wash? If so I suggest you check boot mounted items first. If not, when the fault is evident, one by one disconnect each item serviced by the K-bus until the fault clears. This will give you a starting point. On mine it was a trapped K-bus wire under the glovebox auto-changer.

My electrical gremlins were down to water in the reversing ECU tucked away in the boot, nice and easy to sort after a few pointers from people on here

Thanks for your replies. There's nothing much in the boot of mine! I don't even have reversing sensors.

I thought the ECU was quite well sealed on the 1.8 models? I do rod the drain hole every now and then but haven't checked since the summer when I changed the pollen filter.
