UK speed limits under review.
There is a review of current speed limits across the UK underway to reduce emissions & there are calls to reduce the national speed limit to 50 mph to protect the environment .
What would be the point of performance cars with these 'Speed limits for environmental purposes' https://www.express.co.uk/life-style...-lowered-50mph

There already are speed reduction zones on the M1 to reduce pollution where it passes densely populated area's.

If people do not reduce their speed and speed cameras go up, one can only imagine the outcry that they are just cash cows. No mention of the reason for the reduced speed limit and that people were ignoring it. Would be nice if a reason was also shown as to why the speed limit is reduced. Drivers may think that they are signs left over from perhaps road works and so ignore them.

There will be an outcry regardless of what is done. It's all unfair, life is unfair, luxury is unfair - just not enough of it!
There's a film with Morgan freeman - I cannot remember the name but he is in prison. When a new prisoner arrives and contends that he is innocent and was wrongly convicted, MF quietly smiles and says 'we are all innocent here'.

I see the first 'Zero Emission zone' has gone live today in Oxford, all ICE vehicles & PHEV's will be charged to enter. https://www.fleetnews.co.uk/news/lat...nd-of-february

Reducing speed limits for environmental reasons doesn't make any sense when all cars are going to be eclectic and therefor zero emission in a few short years.
Does this mean that when I'm driving my EV I can ignore the reduced speed limits as my car emits as much pollution at 60 as it does at 50?

Yes it means youcan ignore them ....... Although you forgot the wxtrabrake dust created if slowing from 60, also additional friction from the tyres (apparently these issues are consudered) Sent from my SM-A600FN using Tapatalk

Brake pad particulates are much lower on EV's as a majority of the time they use regen braking. Tyre wear is slightly higher but nowhere near as much as the anti-EV brigade claim. After almost 23,000 miles we're still on the original tyres and they still have a long way to go. For comparison my Mercedes C class would chew it's way through a set of rear tyres every 7-10k!
