The Crazy World of Car Insurance
I recently received this year's renewal quote which was 25% higher than last year, so I've just done the rounds of comparison sites and managed to find a cheaper option. Before I bought the policy from a new provider I went to my current insurer's website to cancel the renewal and was immediately offered a discount that took the price to £5 lower than last year (and £20 less than the cheapest quote I'd found online) so I consider that as a good result! I'd imagined having to pay a much higher premium this time round as I was positive that insurers would want to claw some money back following the recent rule change preventing them from shafting existing customers.

Just renewed mine but my existing company wanted a £50 increase so i had a hunt around and managed to get better cover with a much lower excess for £100 less. My existing insurer wasn't interested in lowering their quote so i have moved over to Hastings direct. Fully comp with a £40 excess for the grand total of £164 a year. Quite happy with that.

did mine a few days ago with Adrian flux. Was £15 more expensive, rang them and the insurance company reduced their "admin fee" from £15 to £5. I paid £245.80 fully comp, 7,000 miles, remapped plus a load of other mods. Parked on drive
Wife had a ding a few months ago in her car but it did not effect the premium as not her fault macafee2 |

Those that don't ask, don't get.
Insurance providers nearly always try to retain you and make an offer. However I recently had a call from another office (Agent) of an House Policy Insurer I turned down last year. I gave them the chance to quote (competitive they said).Only 3 x the present insurer so they did not get the job! |

Looks like the insurance companies are trying to reclaim some of the millions paid out due to the recent storms. My home renewal quote (which last year was £211) had incredibly gone up to just short of £700 with no change in our circumstances. Online comparison sites seem to show a general doubling of quotes compared to last year, so do shop around. Suffice to say, i wont be taking up my insurers offer!!!
