Default New Use For The Cup Holder !! Mains Voltage

If you are on the move quite a lot and you need mains voltage, how about this ?
By accident I remembered, stuck at the back of a drawer, an Xmas pressie from 2 years back that would now come in handy.

Fits neatly into a 75 ZT cup holder and gives up to 150 Watts mains, and has a USB powered o/p too!

I must say Jules,
I like the idea of Mrs Jules using the Map Book, whilst the sat Nav is on the shelf!

Yet another use for the Cup Holder, does anyone actually use them for Cups, Cans yes, but Cups?

Ha ..... well spotted John!!

The pic was taken just boarding the ferry so we were busy getting satnav & valuables out of sight.

Having said that we find many Sat navs we've tried need "supervising" with a map as they never quite take on your desired route. We only believe our Garmin 80% of the time. Fastest or shortest routes settings are sometimes questionable from routes you come to know well.

I most certainly wouldn't have taken any notice of Sat Nav on Ferry!
Don't know where it would have sent you.
To the bottom of the sea most probally.

To many people take them as Gospel, and throw away common sense.

Julian, there is currently a thread on .org pointing out that the manual says not to use the fag lighter socket as an auxilliary power source. My thoughts are that the lighter element will need more power/current/whatever than most things we would use the socket for - phone chargers, satnav etc - but is your gizmo OK to use there?

Hi Malcolm
You are right most gadgets use far less than the lighter element itself!
The socket is fused at 15 AMP (fuse no 15) so you can probably draw 8 amps continously quite safely.

The wiring is quite hefty to the socket, so I think it's just another case of companies covering themselves.

Mind you who could successfully sue Rover now!

When I bought R40 the Dealer told me that the lighter couldn't be used, and pointed to the advice in the manual. Eventually I managed to speak to an MGR tech who said that the advice/guidance was complete ****, but meant for healthy profits fitting aux sockets!.

I do have the aux. socket but I do also use the lighter on occasions and have never had a problem, though I do know that some of the more funny shaped plugs won't fit in the lighter socket.

Wonder how many Aux sockets they sold unnecessarily

Phone chargers and sat navs use next to no current. ie less than 2 amps
The wiring to your car stereo is thinner than the cigar socket wiring and most stereo's draw 5 amps so you can safely use the above gadgets all day long.

I have both, and the Aux socket wiring is even thicker than the Cigar lighter one!
What are they expecting me to run off it? A cooker perhaps!
