One thing I do find is quite awkward on porch awnings, is knocking in the peg directly below the vertical sides, where it needs to be under the van, to get the vertical edge taught.
I have been trying to find an easier way to do it and the best I could come up with is a guy rope tied where the peg is intended to go (on the ladder), guy rope long enough to peg it at the far side of the van.
