compensation to charity
Wife and I were delayed on a train journey Thursday apparently due to a suicidal person on railway property. The guard was very informative about claiming compensation giving announcements over the tannoy system. Oh money, love it, great but 2 things. 1. I don't feel this delay was caused by the rail company. 2. This person must have been in quite a state to be contemplating suicide.
Wife has made our claim for compensation and........ ticked for the money to be donated to the Samaritans. We don't know if the claim will be successful. You may not agree with charities or the running of them but if you are able, can you please try to support one or two? I don't know if to say some or all, do vital work macafee2 |

Having been at the sharp end of a suicide when I was train driving I'd support the compensation going to a mental health charity. Kudos to you and your wife Ian. Sadly the guy got his wish, stepped out from behind a bridge and stood between the rails as I approached, not a thing I could do.

I always took the attitude that it was something that could happen . . . . doesn't prepare you for when it does though! Some guys couldn't drive again after a suicide, some guys had several, thankfully I only ever had one before moving into supervisory then management positions. I remember the next time I drove over that line a 3 or 4 weeks after the incident, I could feel the tension building up in me as I approached the location, when I passed it and nothing happened I have never felt such a sense of relief, before or since.
