Default Rover 75 2.0 diesel, pros and cons

Good evening

An opportunity to aquire a 2000 Rover 75 2.0 diesel has presented itself. As I would like to use my Rover 75 2.5 V6 for weekend driving only, this might be interesting for daily driving.

As I know nothing about the diesel, other than that it's got a BMW engine? is there anything i particular one should look for?

Have a nice evening,

Sincerely,
Erik

Hi Erik,

As you are familiar with the KV6, have a look at this guide https://the75andztclub.co.uk/forum/s...t=75282&page=2 jump to post 19

A manual can suffer clutch master or clutch slave failure.
The 115 BHP, generally a CDT is in my opinion, a dog but once remapped to 160 BHP becomes a decent car. The 131 BHP engine, generally a CDTI is ok as it is.
I own both

I think they are good cars with solid engines, quiet on a run and with decent fuel economy. Very comfortable

apart from what is in post 19 of the link referred to, I cant really think of other faults that are specific to the diesel but I am sure there are some.

If the one you have your eye on, does not have a fuel burning heater (webasto), fit one, you wont regret it

Not forgetting the crankshaft pulley which supposedly starts to fail around 150k and sounds like a bag of spanners when it fails. Mine failed recently on my cdti at 14950 miles!!! There is an advised preferable make for the replacement but not sure which mine is (was replaced locally via AA claim). Other than that, my diesel has been fab! (160 upgrade advisable btw)

I do like mine, its a 135 cdti MKII, but it does have it's issues which I'm slowly working my way through.

Low milage doesn't always guarantee it's not got more than it's fair share of problems.

I do intend to get it remapped as everyone I've spoke to has said how good it is, plus it was designed for 160bhp, it had to be "down-tuned" as BMW didn't want it producing the same power as the same engine in their own models.

I love my 160 2.0 CDTI. It's at 90k now. Drove to Manchester and back this morning. Cruising smoothly at 70 on the A1, just purring along, nminimal emgine noise, cosseted in the lush interior, I couldn't help thinking, wow, this is some car !!

They are a terrific car, well it would be, it's a 75 !!

Look for a service history Erik - with regular oil changes these engines can go on and on.

Having a CDT that's remapped to 160 and a CDTI that I think is standard,
unless I'm towing the caravan I'm not convinced a remap on a CDTI is required, a CDT it is. Of course this could be my driving style but even with a remap, it aint goinna win any races.
