Guess they ran out of time this time around, this has happened a couple of times before and they've managed to save it last minute. Their ATOL licence was due to expire last night.

From what I can make out all their customers who are abroad on holiday at the moment will be brought home on Monarch flights but there will be no new outgoing flights taking passengers abroad.

Well we were going to Malaga on Saturday for a week. Not now though. Real pity as I liked Monarch, they were a bit more money but far superior to the rubbish at the bottom of the pile particularly Ryanair. We like our annual week of sun in Spain, will have to settle for a week at home in sunny Yorkshire!

Let's hope it is sunny for you Nick, just to add..people said that Monarch were particularly good with disabled and wheel chair passengers..end of 50 years in business.

Sad how the market has changed. All people seem to want is cheap cheap cheap and doing it all online.
You cannot beat good old fashioned service but these days its forgotten about.

Flew with Monarch a few times but not good experiences.

On our 25th wedding anniversary we were flying from Glasgow to Orlando. The original flight broke down (Airbus) and after a five hour delay we were shoved onto an ageing DC10 and they wanted to place my wife and I in separate seats at opposite ends of the aircraft. I complained but they insisted we get seated so with my missus almost in tears I told them we were not flying and to get our luggage removed.
Within seconds row 17 suddenly became available but later on during a cabin visit, the only time my wife has ever been up front the Captain apologised for what had happened.

On another flight coming back into Manchester we were placed right at the back row. The space was so tight I measured it with my elbow against the back of the seat I had to fold down my hand to fit into the space against the rear of the seat in front. I'm six foot plus and almost had to be lifted out of my seat on arrival.

Ryanair for all the bad publicity they get are actually very good to fly with, their aircraft have far more legroom than some other carriers. The only thing I don't like is the cattle crush when boarding so we tend to use priority boarding to avoid this. In 40 years of flying we've used Ryanair the most by far in number of flights.

The attacks in Egypt and issues over Turkey looks to have damaged them as well.

My eldest daughter uses Ryanair to fly to Dublin every fortnight. Her experiences are far from good. Firstly they stop the flights from Prestwick, then on numerous occasions the flights are delayed or cancelled with little or no notice, baggage changes happen as well with little notice. She could of course fly with Aer Lingus but the timetable and costs are not so good. She says though she has to take the rough with the smooth.

Just spoke with someone who flew back this morning with a different airline, from Gibraltar; apparently Monarch customers are sat around waiting with no aircraft and no news, not so good as painted for their return.

My real feelings are towards the 2500 or so people who will be losing their jobs. This includes people in support, at counters, in engineering, cabin crews and pilots.

A little inconvenience whilst being stranded awaiting alternative flights home is inconvenient but not much more.

Just my perspective on matters.
