If they can not pay it, keep their car until they do, and then if not paid, crush it and charge them for storage and transport to the crusher. Bet there would not be many uninsured cars around like there is now. Cruel to be kind comes to mind.
I thought it worked like that anyway. To retrieve the car, you had to pay recovery costs, storage fees on a daily basis, have proof of insurance, then you still went to court over it. After two weeks it would be crushed, and you still have the costs to pay along with the court fines.

There has to come a day when, simply, if you get in the car without tax,MOT or insurance, some device or other disables the car from starting. Can't be that difficult to come up with something?

All the technology is already here - no will from the Government to use it though.

Bit like speeding - if the government was serious about preventing it then all new cars would be fitted with limiting devices to prevent them speeding.

We're charged for retests though so every up has its down.
Theyre carried out by dva staff, who are part of the dfi, I believe . Our mots are the same but different , and of course better

Can't make extra revenue if you stop the speeders
