Default Engine preheating

I´m thinking of assembling an engine preheating system to my KV6. Something like this:

Is there anybody who did this before? Does it make sense? Is such a system suitable to reduce engine wear at low temperatures?

check out the forum, I'm sure in the last couple of weeks fitting a webasto unit to a petrol was discussed.

many of us with diesels have a webasto unit fitted, I believe it helps reduce engine wear. Also, these can be fired up before the engine is started and if left for 10 minutes the temperature gauge is getting halfway to normal running temperature setting.

Not only helps engine wear but clearing windscreen of ice and make a more pleasant cabin environment

Just about all cars in Sweden have some form of engine + cabin heater and many workplaces / residential parking areas have electrical outlets.

My own 75 has this kind:

Not only is it said to be good for the engine and environment but with clear, ice free car windows probably reduces accidents too.

The only disadvantage is the initial cost as the leads and sockets are special but spread over several years the cost is well worth it. I usually find about two hours on a timer is enough even with temperatures around minus 15 - 20.

Old Rovers such as the P4 had a screwed aluminium plug in the Cyl. block that when removed could be replaced with a block heater 240 or 110 volt version. I had one in my Diesel LR , worked well but was low wattage , so more suited to being left connected overnight.
