Catalytic converter ?????
It seems as though i have a small hole some where in the converter-small amount of soot on the outside of the metal. Is this an unusual case and is it costly to repair/replace. I haven't the facilities to do this job myself also age isn't on my side for crawling under the car. Any advice on which way to go as to replace -mot coming up so they may be more costs.
Due to it being our daily driver and needed for hospital needs ,fast fitting companies are quick ,but there reputation is not always good. Car is a diesel auto. regards Dave Last edited by Goldrover; 19th March 2019 at 15:15.. |

I would suggest a visit to one the tyre and exhaust depots. We have one here under the name of DCM, but I am sure there are some near you.
If they are worth their weight, they should check over the entire system (hoping to sell you a new one!) but it may be the lower cost option. It should put your mind at rest as where the corrosion lies. Ask to see the system up on the Ramps and their proposals. DCM made up a complete S/S exhaust including silencers and CATs for under £800 incl VAT for my Lexus RX300 (Lexus wanted £1000 for each CAT! - and there is three of 'em!) Hope this helps.

Found out it is now the flexi pipe in front of cat that is holed. Looks like a replacement is in order for a front cat unit or replace just the flexi -don't know if this would be false economy although cat itself looks good.
