Default Keyfob failure,

Advise please.message centre IPK,saying engine immobilsed,i have renewed the battery in the fob, but still won't unlock, lock, or start the engine, could it be the Transponder inside the fob, and if so, how do I go about getting it reprogrammed,it is an original key, and not a cheap fleabay one, and its the only key I have ever had with the car, its lucky it happened on my driveway,as usual its two steps forward, and one back,Grrrrrr regards Ian.

Apologies if this is a stupid question but the immobiliser chip is still there, didn't fall out when you did the battery?

The immobiliser chip and the remote locking/unlocking are completely separate. No connection between them what so ever.

Was suggests that it no longer is in the fob.! Could you please check again and ensure that the transponder IS in the fob.

One thing that can render it impossible to start the car is trying to start a car with a failing battery,

when swopping keys over make sure you swap the original transponder over also according to the manual you have to press the unlock/or unlock button 5 times in rapid succession to host the key back to the car also make sure you dont flatten the battery down too much as the transponders may get scrambled rgds mark

Yes the transponder will be corrupt I'm afraid

It is a case of removing the EWS3 immobiliser from the car and posting it to whoever you choose who make keys..............HERE

It may be worth having two transponders made, and treating yourself to one of THESE at the same time......one key only is a disaster in the waiting for these cars.

Current retail price for a key from BMW is £220 for reference
