Exclamation Northern Ireland Insurance - Useful links!

This is something that may be of use to everyone, a combined list of companies that cover Northern Ireland for car insurance, as well as this.

Quote:

http://www.askmid.com/askmid.aspx

The Motor Insurance Database (MID) was set up by the insurance industry to help combat this crime, and is now helping the UK comply with the 4th EU Motor Insurance Directive, which requires that insurance details of all vehicles in member states, can be easily accessed by a national information centre. In the UK, this role is carried out by the MIIC (Motor Insurers' Information Centre).

In theory every vehicle registered for road use in this country, which is driven in a public place will have to be notified to the MID. For vehicles insured on "Private Car" type policies this is already being done by Insurers as they hold records of registration numbers of vehicles covered on their policies.

Phase 2 of the implementation of the directive is a little more involved as it involves incorporation into the MID of all vehicles on "Unspecified" policies i.e. Blanket fleet policies and Motor Trade Policies

The regulations will require the following:
Registration numbers for vehicles owned by the client and those specified covered on their Motor Trade/Fleet policy.
Courtesy/Loan/Demonstrator vehicle registration numbers owned by the client for the purposes of customer use.
Trade Plates (if applicable)
That is the Motor Insurance Database, type in your reg to check if your car is officially insured. Its not 100% full proof as explained above, but its the same database the PSNI will use should you be pulled over. Worth considering, if your not on it, what the issue may be and discuss with your insurance company.

Below are links to companies that insured for Northern Ireland as of May 2010. If any of them are out of date I will edit them appropriately if you message me!!!

Hi just got a quote from DirectLine for the ZT, £398 fully comp, proteced no claims, etc, etc, Missus n me as a named driver (dont have any no claims/not uk resident) thought it pretty reasonable. Open+Direct who we're currently with where almost £100 more expensive. Up for renewel 15 June so still shopping round. Im 40 and shes 34 (cradle snatcher I know!) If I was still in England t would probably be half that !!

I got mine with Greenlight this year which was about £200 cheaper than else where, I use another NI forum www.reallymeansounds.com and its free, they get a discount on the Greenlight policies. Might be worth looking at also?

Im going traders myself next year to include the van, the ZT and her Ka.

well just renewed insurance. Open and direct who we're currently with matched the directline quote, and actually we get more with it (recovery, replacement key cover, accomodation costs in the event of a breakdown and a few other sweetners) so happy enough. Worth going back to your current provider and seeing if they can match or better another quote. Buyers market and all that. £400 fully comp

I renewed mine with Open and Direct too. When the quote came in it was high. went over and talked to them and took some other quotes and got it down by £100.

I think most of these companies do the same, as Im sure a lot of people just automatically renew without really checking,so the companies are making a killing. I've got a bit of a gob on me, and my only loyality is with my own bank balance so if they want my business they gotta work for it.
