The impact sensor lives under the carpet below the seat at the bottom of the "B" pillar. Usual reason for failure is water damage. There are two types (early one is green, the later is orange, don't know when the change was), need to find out which you have before getting a replacement.

You might find this useful.

"A" pillar is the one at the side of the windscreen, "B" pillar is between the front and rear doors, "C" pillar is between the rear door and rear screen.

Steve,

In my experience the pillar between the rear doors and rear window is the 'D' pillar. This is because the pillar between the doors has a letter for each surface: 'B' where the front door striker plate is situated and 'C' where the rear door hinges are. Odd I know, but it is the nomenclature I have seen used.

However, in the age of Google it appears that virtually anything goes. Standardisation seems to be a thing of the past.
