Default Diesel vs Gas (for longevity)

My 2.O V6 with 230,000 KLM just self destructed when the water pump seized....(this is my fault as I should have it changed as I had no idea as to when the last time it was done...car with no records)

I am looking to buy a 2.0 CDT with 257,000 KLM
Could the same thing happen again (or is it a different design?)

Thanks

Totally different design, James. The diesels are BMW M47 engines with timing chains, not belts. The ones in the 75/ZT also don't have those troublesome swirl flaps or variable vane turbos like the same engines in BMW cars have.

Cheers,
Glenn

As mentioned it is a completely different design - the water pump is driven from an auxiliary belt on the diesel.
