Airbag light
Hi all got MOT next weekend and have the airbag light on. The previous owner has bypassed some wires under the drivers seat and one had come loose so I replaced it with a bullet connector and pulled the fuse for 20 minutes. All was well for a a few miles but the light has reappeared. Which wires and connectors am I looking at exactly as I can see there are wires for the seat motors under there too... ?

Presume the bullet connector I put on to connect two wires has nothing to do with the airbag system as I should be connecting several wires to eachother??

Have you checked the wires on the other seat ? its not always the drivers side..... also has the car ever had water leaking in, if so it may be the sensors corroded under the carpet
Various threads around on this

With a mk1 under the seat you are looking for a yellow connector for the airbag and a blue one for the seat belt pretensioner, a problem with either can bring the light up. The connectors are present under both front seats. In a Facelift both connectors are yellow.

Probably not connected (get it? ), but I 'd be redoing the red wire's connector tout suite (third picture). I'm sure I can see bare wire there. I hate previous owners' wiring "repairs".
Cheers, Glenn

At some point I'll solder the proper connectors back on. EDIT - After further thought I'm pretty sure you can follow the wire from the connector to the pre-tensioner. So whatever colour it is, it will be the other connector for the airbag

Both my ZTs I ended up replacing the connectors with solder and heatshrink but added about 6" of wire to all of them to eliminate seat movement being a problem. Moving the seats can put the wiring under tension either pulling the connectors apart or even cause a break.
Photo 1 is the yellow airbag connector. Photos 2 and 3 seem to be of the same bodge, wire added into the seat belt pretensioner wiring Last edited by stevestrat; 11th March 2018 at 18:46.. |

Wow thanks for all the replies fellas. No water ingress at all so I think I will cut the yellow connector in photo 1 off and reconnect with a plastic screw connector then match it all on the other side if no joy. Oh and well spotted that bare wire on the red connector - I'll sort that too. What a load of shennanigans! To be fair I've not had a car yet with airbags which hasn't had a fault because of these underseat wires - more so when the wife has been using them as like most women she has this annoying habit of moving the seat right back every time she gets out ...!
