No, not current in the methodology for the system I am thinking of. Yes; vents and winglets have come to the fore in the last 20 years. It does the same job in that some will be there to cause front downforce and some to direct lower wind levels between the front wheel(s) and the side of the vehicle.

Stevstrat in post 20 has hit some of the nail on the head.
