Cool Had an offer to buy…………….

……………………… The Flying Banana. The offer came from a neighbour. He walks past Banana every day on his way to work. If I have been outside washing the car, like this morning, he will often stop and chat.

Well, today he knocked on my front door and offered me money for Banana. Not For Sale I said. He said, “ Name your price”.
Not For Sale. He offered me £7,000. Sorry still not For Sale.

I then explained that I had Banana written into my will and it would be left to a friend, a fellow forum member. His reply was, “Give me his number and I’ll buy it off of him”. Charming I thought, I’m still here and driving ole Yella.
I said you still won’t be able to buy the car.

Now if you want to buy the Bear then that will be ok. But you’ll need to offer a lot more for her. “Nope, I just want the Banana”. Was his reply.
Then I’m afraid you will just have to join the queue. And with that he left.

But he was back within 30 minutes, with a package for me. I now have 10 very soft microfibre towels. I said, “ Many thanks but she still isn’t For Sale”.
His reply was, “I have never ever wanted a car so much, but I know you are a true enthusiast and I know you’ll never part with her. The towels are my way of making sure you keep her in tip top condition”.

I thanked him and he went home.

Surely he could buy a ZT and use the remaining 6.5K to have it painted to have it painted?

He sounds genuine Bob and in fact it's a nod to how well you look after her.

But she is yours for keeps and i know the feeling.

That’s a good offer Bob, clearly your neighbour likes the looks of Flying Banana, inside and out, the giant Banana and the other accessories. It must have given you a nice feeling being asked.

In 2014 at the POL I was offered £5,000 for the S reg. Had I accepted it, I would have saved thousands in more repairs, such is life.

As long as your happy with your decision is what matters.

it sounds like a great offer for a car with a book price of under £2000, but £7k is nothing for a car in a world where a Polo starts at £15,000 and an ID3 £32,000! £7k could be the annual depreciation on a good BMW or Merc.

I get it from his point of view, There are companies out there who restore almost anything to original condition and £7k including the original car is not enough.
