Tyre Recommendation For A 4x4?
I know it's not a 75 but hear me out:
I've just had the blue tank serviced at Eurofit, and they warned me that my 2 rear tyres are near the legal limit. Now on Tarquin I fitted Avons to it since I'd heard a lot of positive remarks about them, but since my HR-V is a baby 4x4, I was wondering if anybody could name some alternatives. Thanks.

I use Bridgestone duellers on the explorer , never had any problem with them and grip is good , couldn't tell you about mileage as they get changed when needed ,

I have heard good reviews about the Pirelli Scorpions. Not good for off roading but give low road noise and a quality brand.

I have used General Grabber tyres exclusively now for more than a decade (except on my Mini).
On my Discovery 2 I ran their AT2, then AT. Having changed to a Freelander 2 I'm now running their latest All Terrain AT3. These tyres are long lasting and provide great grip and traction, wet or dry, tarmac or gravel. My current set have done 43000 miles and I measured the remaining tread last weekend, 4.5mm and 5.5mm (front and back) and I'd say will easily do a further 20000 miles although I intend changing them as next winter approaches anyway. My wife drives a VW Tiguan 4motion and it runs General Grabber GT tyres which are a more road biased pattern, again they last around 40000 miles a set. I tend to swap them front to rear every 5000 miles or so in order to balance out the wear and ensure that all 4 are replaced at once, more expensive hit at one go but given the longevity of these cant complain. Another tyre I like the look of is the Michelin Latitude Cross, more expensive but again great reputation for durability, I just might consider these for a change if nothing else. |

My favourite tyre on a whole range of LR’s was BF Goodrich All Terrains. Quiet on road and incredible grip when needed in the soft stuff.
Very long lasting - and not that expensive. Worst “all terrain” I ever came across were Toyo’s - a friend had them fitted on a Mk2 Discovery and I’m not kidding you could hear the “road hum” from the tyres a mile off. Sounded like a military vehicle such was the “hum”. I think these days when tyres are rated for road noise things are very different - but as his Discovery was very unpleasant to be in at anything above 50mph on tarmac on the Toyo’s - I would a) ask if you really need AT’s and b) if the answer is yes, then pay special attention to the reviews which tell you which makes are noisy on road and those that are not. And the interesting thing was - the Toyo’s had an almost identical tread pattern to my BF Goodrich AT’s - but I would say the BF’s were not noisy at all. So it must be construction and tyre compound I would suggest. |
