Has anyone actually had an MOT failure due to modifying the EGR?
There are many nods, winks and warnings on here about "beware the MOT tester" if he (or possibly she) spots the blocked EGR, though it may be hidden under the engine cover. But has anyone actually had a failure? Many of us would really like to know . . .

It can be difficult to see, some cars have the pipe ‘closed’ and once the vac pipe is replaced it’s impossible to know. Other bypass parts look exactly like the egr but is blanked where the corrugated pipe attaches so again impossible to see. Most MOT testers won’t know the car that well as they are getting older and rarer. If the tester knows the cars well and spots an obvious bypass then it is a fail.

If removing the egr completely, remove the corrugated section also. In other words, don’t just put a blanking piece on the corrugated section, as this will only cause the corrugated section to expand under pressure and fracture.
How do I know….?🙄🙄🙄 IMO, Best to leave the (blanked) egr in place as will look no different to MOT tester. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Slightly confused with this answer. If what you are saying is correct, then there would be a lot of fractured pipes. Even when the egr is working, it's closed most of the time. Mine has been cleaned out and disconnected for years, never failed an mot, or a fracture in the pipe for that matter.

I think he means to use the bypass kit that includes the nipple to attach the flex pipe to for blanking and support - or that flex pipe will crack.

The best way to blank off the egr is to use some 3mm aluminium plate and make a blank that fits between the exhaust manifold and the take off pipe, it is unseen at MOT time.
