cheers all- will have to dig out the towing bracket this week and get it fitted- the bracket itself is only a 20 minute job, but half the interior trim has to come out to do the electrics

Another thing is setting up your van putting the kettle on and sit and watch Mr & Mrs newbie try and set the awning up for the first time The worse the weather the funnier it gets.
That'll be us then.
Ill have to try and not do what my dad used to do, I can rememember many a happy holiday being started with the immortal words " get your ****** hands out of your ****** pockets and get some pegs hammered in "

Now that's just what I say to Lilian but unfortunately our caravan holidays have been put on hold this year what with her hip and then the operation going wrong she is still in hospital now with her legs tied together and not allowed to move for 14 days and then to be on crutches for 8 weeks. So I think we can kiss goodbye to caravanning this year

So, whilst the cheque is clearing Id better get round to fitting the towing bracket to Black Olive ( have a nearly new rover detachable with electrics kit in the garage).
to the caravanning community, also well worth joining the Caravan Club.

Steve won't it be cheaper to stay in a 5 Star Hotel with all that fuel you're going to burn
Still much more fun the way you are doing it!

Been there, done that, I used to have an 1156cc HB Viva years ago, when we first got married and were even more impoverished than now, so to give us a holiday, we borrwed my father-in-law's caravan, and my Dad's Fiat 124 sport, SS or something, anyway it had a twin cam motor in a Lada shape body, as it had a towbar, and the Viva didn't. The performance of the Fiat with the 'van hooked on was at least as good as, if not better than the Viva solo........................

So when I overtook this truck on the Derby ringroad, forgetting I'd got the van on the back, it was only the quick thinking of the truck driver, and his heavy braking, that enabled me to return the car and van to their owners undamaged at the end of the holiday.

The memory still brings me out in a sweat.......

As Jules says with the Cost of Fuel, why not get a Static Caravan or two at locations you love.
On Moving the House Static Van recently, I found the CDTi in this instance doesn't like moving a Fully Loaded 35 odd foot by 12 foot caravan out of Mud!!

the plan longer term is to site the van somewhere not too far away and zoom up in the mini for weekend breaks- short term ( while we make fools of ourselves) there are a couple of nice, well appointed sites less than 15 minutes drive away that we can use to chill out and familiarise ourselves with how everything works etc..

Derek, hope Lillian is better soon.
