Thread Closure

Isn’t it about time the calls for threads containing political opinions (with a small ‘P) to be closed to be themselves seen as political?

Most of those calls for censure or closure are from dissenters of one particular opinion or another so could be seen as inherently political masquerading as would-be judges!

There are absolutely no contributors on here who are not adult. All are honourable and surely capable of the required degree of maturity. If the definition of Political is ‘anything any individual says is political, then that’s the daily revised version’, we might as well metaphorically all go home.

Thread closure, other than obviously deliberate trouble making or worse, defamatory or derogatory personal attacks on another, is surely a mark of failure. Oh, and respect is a two way street!

If a thread becomes heated, and we all have red blood , then judicious moderation by managed editing, with the intent and extent of any edit being discussed by pm with the contributor, could be a pre-emptive measure. This would allow ‘self-editing with advice’ and would be infinitely preferable to the blunt, and incredibly rude, closure.

All of this fuss because of one and usually singular temporary bad mood of one contributor. The whole of human life is, in one way or another, intensely political and the Andy Pandy approach rather childish. All in the best possible taste, of course.
