Default Update on Engine Swap[

Well. I've had my 75 back a week now.

Issues so far have been excessively stiff steering, ABS coming and going unexpectedly, stuttering of power, thrumming from front (drive train?)

Took it back to "chat"!

First inspection by manager. Tracking way out even though mechanic had said it didn't need it. Electronically tracked lightened the steering, but not much. I did notice one track rod end had been so squeexed it had stripped the rubber. Manager fittimg new ones, so we'll see.

ABS fault caused by mechanic not secuting the sensor wire which had rubbed all the insulation away on the tyre. New wire to be fitted.

Stuttering? well could just be that the injectors which were still on replacement engine could just be dirty. I had noticed she SEEMS to be a bit less hesitant. Anyway, manager going to refit original injectors which are known to be good.

Manager was unhappy with what he found. Pity he'd left the whole job to a "mechanic" who had been careless, to say the least.

Thrumming not yet identified - wasn't there before. I'll wait till steering sorted to see if anything improves.

All in all an "interesting" experience.

Hi Paul,

Just a little note for you on this to prevent a recurrence.

The front ABS sensor wires are meant to be retained in a bracket on the suspension strut. The problem is that they pop out all by themselves. When your garage has fitted a replacement sensor (which isn't quick because they are usually stuck fast inside the hub and require drilling out), cable ties will need to be fitted to secure the wires to the strut permanently.
