Hi Ryszard,

Thanks for the update. Your question has certainly resulted in improving my knowledge of how the desiccant works.

For future reference, I had a look in my Haynes manual and under compressor removal it does alert the reader to plugging or taping open connections. This procedure is also included in the comprehensive list of air con. service precautions in RAVE. These manuals are always useful reading I find!

Good luck with the rest of it.

Simon

I have to ask.
My new "MGR supplier" (OEM?) quality aluminium condensor (supplied by a trader on here) arrived beautifully packed but I found it to be curved/maybe twisted across it's width so that it wouldn't quite fit properly togther with the radiator. A bit of judicious straightening sorted out the physical issues but despite the packing it was otherwise exposed to atmosphere (i.e. not in a vacuumed plastic covering). The question however is, should both the pipe terminals have been plugged ('cos they wern't...) and based on an unknown manufacturing/storage/shipping history (there was no label nor date codes etc.) is it likely that two months back I've fitted and re-gassed an otherwise duff condensor.
It seems to be performing OK so far but I've not used it much and what is it that indicates the drier might not not working properly (or perhaps ceases to function/drops-off in efficiency)?

Yes, they should have been plugged.

The condensing function will be o.k. John. It's impossible to know how little or how much moisture your drier absorbed during its journey from factory to you. It may well be perfectly o.k.

As T-Cut's explanation reveals there is no indication other than a fault caused by moisture whatever that might be. To put this in perspective, I've had cars with air conditioning for over 30 years and I've never had a problem with a drier.

Don't forget to use your air con. periodically all year round otherwise you risk losing your refrigerant charge!
