Thanks Mike, Jon, Andy & Steve.
Mike - I was hoping it would be auto-shutoff but wasn't sure. Btw, the QR connector is the blue arrow below but what are the red and yellow arrows? The red one looks like a bleed valve/pipe. Jon - good diagram, that explains it. Andy & Steve - 17mm spanner it is then. I have got a trim removal kit somewhere (contains various plastic tools/implements) but I can't find the damned thing. I think the yellow is a breather. The red is the bleed off point for the clutch.
You can fill the clutch system from here too. |

Question 4 - Throttle cable
QUESTION 4
I've got the throttle housing off the manifold as per Rave, which says 'position the housing aside'. I've done that but it's still perilously close to where the threaded rod is going to be (the one for lowering the gearbox). The only thing stopping me from taking the housing off completely is the throttle cable (arrowed below). Is there any way of disconnecting it easily? |

How many bolts?
QUESTION 5
How many bolts are there holding the manual gearbox to the KV6? Rave p709 point 15 says Remove top bell housing bolt and release engine earth lead. So that's bolt number one. Then Rave p711 point 39 says Remove 4 bolts and 1 nut and bolt securing gearbox to engine. So that's bolt numbers two, three, four, five and six (plus one nut). TOTAL = 6 BOLTS + 1 NUT Is that right? Yes, it's breather cap TRV000130 - #9 here.
It must to release any pressure build-up in the transmission case. I had a close look at it and it just lifts up and down. It doesn't fly out altogether because it has prongs to hold it in there. |

The reason they say to replace them is that they are Dry lock bolts. You can see the blue coating on the thread. I just use the old bolts with some thread lock.

Take it off or leave it alone
Thanks Mike. I tried undoing one of the expensive flywheel to engine bolts (PSK100120) but the initial attempts wouldn't shift it - so I decided not to bother.
Is there anything to be gained by taking the flywheel off anyway, I can't imagine there's anything to inspect that I can't see with it in situ. Or is there? |

If you aren't going to replace the flywheel leave it in place. With standard flywheels I always get them refinished but I have been told that isn't an option with dual mass flywheels. Check the flywheel for flatness. If it is flat give it a good scuffing with sandpaper to remove any glazing.
The only other reason to remove the flywheel is if there is an oil leak from the engine rear main seal.
