Stalling 75
Hello
Hoping someone may be able to share some insight I have just bought a Rover 75 2.5 6 (auto) and the car is a real beaut. It had been well cared for, one owner since new and garaged for all its life when not used. It runs well, is rust free and everything works. It has great pick up and handling is superb. That is until I hit the "econ" button and then you would think it was having a seizure. It shudders and shakes and then stalls when it is at idle. It starts straight up again if I turn the econ button off as though nothing had happened The obvious answer would be don't use the "econ' Button however I am concerned it may be symptomatic of a larger problem. Any feedback would be appreciated. |

My ZR did this, it had too much gas in the aircon system.

Sounds like the aircon compressor is seizing up.

Stalling 75
Hello
Thank you all for your replies. the common consensus seems to be the issue is around the aircon system which I shall now ask my mechanic to investigate. It had not been notable up to now but the system does start to get a bit jittery although not as bad when the auto button is switched on. I really appreciate the feedback Thanks All |

When you press the ECON button the air conditioning is switched OFF. When you press the AUTO button the air conditioning is switched ON. I therefore don't think your problem can have anything to do with the compressor. It might be an idle speed problem because this is increased when the compressor clutch is engaged. Before making any hasty assumptions, and bearing in mind that you've just acquired the car, I would begin by carrying out a full engine service including cleaning the idle speed control valve. Simon

If I were you, I would be heading across to see Big Russ, he will put your car on T4 and check the engine and aircon system for you, it will take all the guesswork out of diagnosing the issue.
