Autoglym engine clean - CDTi
I am thinking of doing an under-bonnet valet on my CDTi using Autoglym Engine and Machine cleaner. This seems like good stuff, and shifts most of the grime when I have used it on components off the car.
I am a bit nervous about spraying it everywhere under the bonnet, then hosing it off without getting water somewhere that will cause problems. Autoglym just say 'protect vulnerable electrics with clingfilm'. Has anyone here used this product to do a full under-bonnet clean on a CDT/CDTi, and if so, did you have any problems, and which specific electrical items did you try to protect ?. I assume it is a good idea to remove the undertray before trying to do the rinsing off with a hosepipe. Thanks for any advice/tips Pete |

I was told how to do the lazy man's way of cleaning under bonnet plastics and hoses.
I never expected it to work, but one day gave it a go. I cleaned off the worst of any grease and grime with a spray of wd40 and a bit of a wipe down. I then sprayed liberally with auto glym rubber and vinyl cleaner and shut the bonnet. I then went for a drive until engine was up to temp, returned and opened bonnet, it was the easiest bit of cleaning iv'e ever done, with a very surprising result. |

As the above thats pretty much what i did. I wiped it down with autosmart G101 and an old microfibre and got it almost clean. Then sprayed with autosmart finish and it looks great.

Spray with engine cleaner then start engine and hose down carefully. I do it with both my V6 and V8 plus all my previous cars and never had a problem. Just don't go mad with the hose and soak everything, leave the car running until it gets hot to help dry off any residual moisture
