KV6 cam locking tools
I seem to remember that the club has a set of kv6 camshaft locking tools that is available for members to hire/use. I would like to gain access to these as I have a KV6 2.5 with head gasket failure. Are these club tools still available for me to use please, or does someone have a set available to hire out or if not too expensive sell me. Sorry if this is posted in the wrong section. Thank you. Are you sure it's HGF? My understanding is it's quite rare.

KV6 cam locking tools
Hi Simon, thanks for your reply. Yes, it is my 1999 825 Coupe, but I have been assured that the 75 cam locking tools will fit. I have purchased the full head gasket set, cam belt set and water pump, and have found a mechanic that will assist. I will not know if I shall need a 'stat housing until the inlet manifold is removed. I have read that the KV6 does not use stretch bolts. Is it advisable to replace the bolts, and if so can any bolt of the same size and strength be used? My current everyday car is my diesel Rover 75 tourer which is fine (mot due Nov. and just fitted new discs,pads and shoes all round , along with a new alternator), but is now showing an airbag light. I will check out the yellow wires at the weekend - fingers crossed. As I am a club member I hope that the locking set could be made available to help to cure (mend) one of the '75's ageing relatives. Hi Geoff,
You're right, the kits contain tools for the 825 as well as the 75/ZT (most are common but the 825 rear sprockets are a different design). I'm not aware that the club has this tooling available for lending so a PM to one of the moderators might be an idea. I can't help with your question about the through bolts I'm afraid. What does Haynes say in its 825 manual? The 825 coupé is a rare and graceful design so well done for saving it! Simon

Simon, thanks for your prompt reply. I will try to contact a MOD or hopefully one will read this thread and get in contact. I thought that the late 825's had been updated (debugged). I too think the 800 coupe is a bit rare now and love the lines. This car really must be saved, but it surprises me how quickly all the 800 series seem to have disappeared. I have had 3 in the past, all 827 models, one of which was a coupe - I wish I had kept that one. Geoff.

Rave does not mention using new head bolts ; it just advises wiping the old ones clean when refitting They are not long bolts like on the K16 four pot engines . I refitted my heads about a year ago after renewing the valve stem oil seals and reused the old bolts without any problem .

Thanks Chris. I knew the head bolts were not the long stretch bolts, but wondered if changing was nec. Well done for doing your heads - I keep trying to take the plunge, but am chicken to start without locking the cams.It has been suggested to me that it can be done, but I dare not risk it. Did you use a locking kit? How difficult was it? I have been looking to find a way to PM a mod, but have not yet found out how!!! Geoff.

I have done the timing belt job a few times now , both with and without the tool kit . I prefer to do it with the kit as I find it very satisfying somehow , and I like the way it allows the sprockets to turn a little when you tension the front belt without moving the camshafts
The hard work is all in the camshaft belts ; the heads themselves are easy enough if you have ever taken a head off before . Couple of points ; the rear bank head is a bit of a stretch to reach and is quite heavy ( especially if you leave the exhaust manifolds on as I did ) , so you either need 3 Weetabix or a helper . Also , I recommend taking a photo or at least having a good look at the head gaskets before you remove them ; they are identical for each head but fit different ways round ( as do the heads themselves ! ) and the ones I had didn't have any markings on them , so I was a bit puzzled when I came to refit them . There is a lot of kit to come off so make sure you have space to put it all With reference to the camshaft belts I am attaching the instruction sheet for the Sealey tool set ; it's the clearest set of instructions for doing the job I have come across . Good luck , take your time , and enjoy . I used to have an 820 hatchback and I loved it
