Shell also wants to expand it's leading position in Hydrogen as well, primarily for heavy industry & haulage though.
Shell & BP have been taking over EV charging companies lately to guard their market share; Shell just announced today they're upping their EV public charging infrastructure across all markets from 60000 to 500000 in the next four years They are investing heavily in record amounts of renewable energy & aim to to sell about 560 terawatt-hours per year by 2030, which is twice as much electricity as today. Fuel duty revenue or the lack of it is going to be a real problem in the next five years & I should imagine it wont be long before the treasury want their pound of flesh. Petrol/diesel has already risen 4p/litre in January alone & from what I've read fuel duty will be rising in the Spring budget to keep in line with Paris accord.

And talking of the Budget, will we be paying per mile as the new tax regime? Will it matter what ‘fuel’ car we own. Discuss(!).

Thanks guys for all the replies. Ive been out and bought a 64 plate Vauxhall Insignia VX-Line 163bhp 2.0 cdti yesterday. The 75 will be going this week, it's been a great car, never let me down in 6 years of ownership.

Sorry, but my next car after the two I have at the moment, will be a long wheelbase whatever, with room for a wooden box in the back. No, not kidding. When I have to go on my last drive into the beyond it will not worry me what car it is. Meanwhile, as long as I can, I will still have my faithfull Rover 75 diesel under me.
