Default Genuine Tourer Roof Cross Bars

Hi Folks,
As title suggests I am after a set of genuine MG Rover tourer roof bars (side to side) in good condition, cash waiting or will swap for a pair of genuine MG Rover saloon roof bars that I have if anyone is interested in them!

Today i found out that late 75 ‘s saloon post facelift (2004 model) cannot be fitted the original rover roof bars as they lack of the prope screw nut ...in the roof... it seems that was replaced by a cheaper rivet... result is that the wing nut cannot be screwed to the ceiling...

Do you guys may confirm this?

Hi Alberto,
I have to disagree with you there as I have a face lift (2004) ZT and have fitted my saloon roof bars to it many times with no problems at all.

I removed the rails from my ztt and the saloon bars fit the first and second holes if you extend the holes of the rear bar. Not everybody's idea of a solution but worked for me and didn't cost me a penny.

If you cant get original, Thule do some nice looking cross bars. Seen them on a wedgewood Tourer in whittlesey or close by, very neat

You need to pull the rivet out, it protects the screw thread before painting

Alberto

As David says the plastic rivets were fitted to protect the threads and are removable, I used wood screws to pull them out.

Before

After

Rivets removed with wood screws

Hope that helps
Jim

My apologies Neil for off thread comments.
