Unhappy gearbox/clutch or drive train? :(

Definitely something wrong with my car..

Car had a new clutch , fly wheel and cylinders in 2017 (though i can't seem to find the documents atm )

Basically.. On the journey home after buying the car in January , my mate drove her home and i followed behind.

Every now and then i smelt an oily burny smell.

Now, since owning it for a little while I've noticed this smell again a few times.

Today during a bit of spirited driving i found it hard to get into gears a couple of times.

Also had a spot of bother getting it into first when i came back to the car from being in the cinema.

Just had a good look through the history and have found several clutch replacements and slave and master cylinder replacements.

All within 30k or less miles between each other.

Even when it was quite new.

Including something wrong with gear selector cables? Or something?

I've got to ask... What the beep is wrong with this car?

There has to be some reason why so many clutch failures in such a short space of time.

There must be sub standard parts being fitted, or some other major issue/design flaw in a component that is killing the clutches.

Any ideas?

I know its not an Audi c4 or quattro, but surely it shouldn't be loosing clutches this quickly ?

Or are these cars really that weak?

The slaves can leak... along with the input shaft oil seal... but mainly the master cylinder seals go and your foot hits the floor

If you fit a new one make sure it is the metal one....tazu I think make them

Oh.. And I almost forgot, today the car was making a whirring noise while moving that disappears when you press down the clutch and goes silent when you come off the throttle . Basically only noticeable when under drive.

And was the main reason i am posting this thread.

Is gearbox low on oil?

No... your thrust (slave) bearing sounds knackered

The burning oil smell was probably that leaking a bit....

So the slave cylinder as fitted by the garage/main dealer is a defective part?

Is there any come back on something like that? Especially given the history of failures since the car was first sold , right up to the present.

?

Not knowing what's fitted and why it failed I don't know... I only do know the metal tazu one's seem to get better press here...

The clutch will still be under warranty so may be worth going back to Mr Clutch who fitted it - not sure if this is still covered as the vehicle has changed owner, but don't see why it shouldn't if there is a mechanical fault with it.
