Trim level on late-build cars
Whilst my (just bought) 55 registered Rover 75 CDTi is specified in the service manual/registration document as being in the "Classic" trim level - it has far more on it than that trim level would suggest. It has full leather seating, folding rear seat, ski hatch, twin horns, illuminated vanity mirriors, full spare wheel, driver's side grab handle, twin rear cupholders, electric windows all round.....and probably more not yet discovered. What was happening on the line in those last few weeks that would have contributed to this? ED

some where upgraded at the factory to include the leather.these where called campain models.however this would definatly not include the grab handle or the twin horns.these items where deleted years before.so it looks like someone has upgraded it for you ie the previous owner

Towards the end of production some elements of project drive seem to have been reversed. My Contemporary SE was built late March 2005 and it has twin horns and drivers grab handle fitted.

Toward the end of production all bets are off as regards what would you would expect for standard equipment levels for the various models
It's a sad fact that the factory was running out of various parts as they didn't have the money to pay their suppliers, that's what caused the eventual closure. Some cars lost spec and others gained it to try and maintain differences in model specs. For example my 05 Connie SE only had half the drivers intelligence pack fitted (no rain sensing wipers or auto dimming mirror) a customers car a couple of cars later than mine an MG+ model had them both fitted. I suspect the reason most 05 plate cars have curtain airbags was either to try to up the spec a little to compensate for missing features or that they had possibly run out of headlinings or associated trim Russ

Twin horns sounds odd, thought they needed extra wiring that was deleted as part of project drive. Presumably the driver's grab handle was because they ran out of blanks?

My 2005 model has the drivers grab handle, leather electric heated seats, curtain airbags, the wiring for the second horn (not yet installed the horn), traffic master and cruise control.

My 2005 build CDTi classic ('poverty spec') actually came with 7 spoke alloys, ski hatch, silver bullet door mirrors and illuminated vanity mirrors. And it has rear parking sensors too.

Towards the end of the road, everything was on, if it was in the bin then it was fitted, specification went out of window, so this is why the strange spec on the late cars, some better some worse, the panic had set in, then the plug was pulled and the lights went out, and a 100 years of car making down the toilet.. and with that a bit of history, and 5000 people out of a job.
