Take a look here..... http://www.kouki.co.uk/utilities/vis...ize-calculator pop in the trye details and Hey! Presto!
As Mango Man has said! you rolling radius will be smaller..... You will be going from 201.97cm to 198.36cm, so when you are doing a speed of 30mph you will be actually doing 29.5mph and when doing a speed of 60mph then you will be doing just only 58.9mph. Now can anybody help me! what is the correct Speed Rating for 215/55/16 tyres and do they need to be Extra Load. |

Yes they need to be W rated, not v rated, i think this is the extra speed/ weight rating!
I have Falken 452 tyres. 215/55/16W

Yep! 16" wheels with a 55 profile need to be Speed Rating 'W' rated and the Load Rating needs to be 93 or above........ Just found this out as illustrated in the Owners Handbook......

if you want a smoother ride, has anyone tried 215 65 R16's on Unions?
I'm wondering if this might be nicer and fill the wheel arch out a tiny bit more? Currently I have 215 55 R16's and feels like they get stuck in tramlines on the road at times they ride so rough. But then I'm comparing to my CDT with 15 inch 65's on. I was wondering if Dunlop blueresponse tyres might be good to restore some sense of luxury to the ride. http://www.blackcircles.com/tyres/br...rt-bluresponse

has anybody tried 65 profile tyres on 16 inch alloys at all here perhaps then?
I'm really not enjoying the ride quality on my unions

I know 225/55x16 fit. It does raise the aspect slightly so will aid in smoothness.
Failing that I would suggest fitting some 15inch Crowns. A lot smoother ride. Just done some calculations. By fitting 65 aspect ratio tyres will increase your diameter by just under 2 inches. In my opinion too much being a 6.7% increase! Fitting 225/55x16 will increase by just under an inch, or 1.7% increase in diameter. It is always advisable to stay within +/- 2%. But of course you could always try. After all it is your car. Ciao.

thanks Bill
the car already has 215 55 16's, surely fitting 225's will just make things even worse? They are wider?

So by increasing the width also increases the height of the sidewall giving more movement and increased compliance. So no, it will not make it worse, it will make it better. (Slightly).
