I just lost a fourth undertray last week.

I think my problem has been the clips dont fit on the brackets underneath my car. I cant believe im the only one whos had this - Matt how do i get these over the brackets under the car? Fromt two only will fit. The rest dont?

Open up the clips a bit with a screwdriver and they will then fit on. I've put these on mine and it's rock solid.

No I have not got a pit, wish I had, or a lift. I run the car up onto two home made wooden ramps which gives me about another 6 inches of clearance. I have a block of wood which I place under the cover in the middle, And then proceed to take the screws out of the cover lying on my side/ back ( did this two weeks ago for oil change) then just pull the cover from underneath. Simples. And I' m an old goat of 76.

there seems to be another strange problem under my car here.

this one is the V6 dorchester, not the gold one.

attempted to open up the fixings like one poster suggested above, but frankly they are firmly in contact and this metal on the bracket is 2-3mm thick - not good, these are NOT the right thing to use, they blantantly don't fit.

on the drivers side, the bracket underneath the car just behind the wheel has a pipe running right below it. the screws in this kit will push into this and damage the pipe if I try and use them. Do all cars have this sort of routing of the pipes, or is something odd going on here?

All I know is I can't use the kit from DMGR's, I'll have to get some m8 bolts and repair washers and try and drop one in from above to bolt up on to, in at least this position.

No offense intended to Matt, but my feedback on those fixing kits is they are far from ideal unfortunately. The clips don't fit on the brackets without serious bending, and risk of slipping of follows that. Plus the screw head is flat type, not philips which is a pain.

Good morning, I have now re-fitted my original undertray and feel much better, I managed to fix the bit that had broken off. I believe it protects the engine and the things that go round. I snapped my auxiliary drive belt when the tray was off, I believe I drove over a spill of small stoned gravel and one or more stones flicked up and destroyed the belt. There was a small stone embedded in the aircon belt. Thats what I think happened although I cannot be certain. I have fitted bolts to hold the tray so can come off quite easily. For my sins I suck the oil out at oil changes. By all means continue to drive without your undertrays, just remember you are exposing the underside of your engine.

Many groan at the sight of 'another undertray thread' It's like this, you either fit one or you don't. If you do fit one it has to be secure. Use original fittings, get 'em from a scrappy if necessary, and use repair/penny washers on large holes. There should be nothing stopping the tray from pressing against the fixings, jack up on the front centre jacking point and use stands with protectors on the sill pads. Use a little grease on the screws, they should lock and remove quite easily. As I said, my tray is shortened to access the oil drain plug, undertrays shouldn't really be an issue to remove/refix.

My under tray came off the other day, I'm worried about the tubes and lines getting it from kicked up rocks damaging the engine bay, so may get another one with a proper fixing kit!

hi
as others have said you can secure the tray with bolts, it'll never drop off. I bought mine from ebay.

Cable ties hold mine on a treat. Never come off yet. Admittedly there are a couple of bolts still fitted but when I replaced the 75 front end for a ZT one I could not get the tray to fit back on. It seemed to be about half an inch too short. Do they really make all that much difference to the noise from a cdti?

Anyway bigger worries than that to contend with. My wife's Renault Laguna 111 which we have had for 3 years has been absolutely faultless. I drove it last night and found a headlight out. No warning on the dash mind, that must be too much for Renault even though it checks everything else. Off to Halfrauds this morning and was pleasantly to find the bulb very accessible. Changed the bulb but still not working. No separate fuse for it so maybe the dreaded Renault electrical gremlins have struck. I am going to check for power at the connector first. Of course in the old days I would have run a wire from the one that worked and see if that fixed it bit I don't fancy removing the battery and carrier to get at it. Please save me from Renault dealer diagnostics.

Have you got a pic of your wooden ramps?
