[QUOTE=mininuts;2081397]Sorry, not me! Mrs mininuts says I have a look of Phil Mitchell

Same hear but with random patches of alopecia

Pointless for me obviously and SWIMBO doesnt use one, so no use for a hairdryer in this house - until now.

Yep went for the black ones Harry

Perhaps it's time to buy yourself a cheap heat gun? Always a handy tool to have around

Yesterday the was shinning so I finally got around to replacing the straws on my door locks with some decent black heatshrink (7mm).

It only took me 7 months to get around to it

The straws had worked well - I had the odd little rattle on occassion, but the top of the straw was visable and the red colour was bugging me.

Nice easy quick mod, highly recommended if rattles and coloured straws irritate you as much as me.

Any recommendations for a heat gun? I have a paint stripping hot air gun - I guess that will be too much. Can a normal hairdryer be used ?

Cheers

Pete

I suppose they must still give free movement up and down?
On my saloon a rear passenger button needs extra presses of the fob to lift it fully, I was thinking it was catching on the sides and your idea would not work, but I guess I`m wrong.
Seeing as yours is fixed can I ask what would cause a slow lifting lock button? Please.
Ken.

That's what I mean, just the normal hot air gun. Mine's a Silverline one with variable speed and heat. I use mine on about half heat for heat shrink etc

Never tried a hairdryer, it'd be more than my life's worth

I used the wifes' hairdryer when she wasnt looking Pete and that did the trick nicely.

Funny you should mention this issue Ken.

I couldnt fit one over my drivers door lock as it was just too tight. I dont know why but there is less clearance, but as it doesnt rattle (bizzare!) its not an issue for me

On the others I only used about 1.5 cm (depth) of heatshrink as it wouldnt go any deeper, whereas the straws went to a depth of about 8cm - probably as they are thinner (and hence an explination for the occassional rattle).

As for your car, maybe the thickness was just a little too much for that particular lock? My front passenger lock seemed a snug fit compared to the rears for some reason!

My drivers lock actuator has never worked and requires a turn of the key to lift, perhaps that door actuator is on its last legs Ken?

i'm getting a bit frustrated with my CDT's rattling door locks at the moment, previously i've tried blackinsulation tape wrapped around the pin, but that doesn't seem to stop it.

I've noticed that the chattering comes from lower down , do we need to insulate the whole wire lenght of the pin, or are people just doing the plastic tip?

i have noticed mine makes a heck of a racket at certain temperatures only, but often when it does pushing the pin forwards in the direction of the hinge seems to stop it on the drivers door.

Any suggestions on this from anyone? Please don't say fir tree clips, that has been done.

Ive got rattles in my CDT too and it's very annoying

I can't say I've noticed any rattles from the locks. I didn't even know that these rattled until I just saw this thread!

I'll need to check mine to see if there is any rattles from this area.

a lot come from the dashboard , particularly by the clock - if it is like a buzzing insect sound, the bcu's are often a favourite target to quieten it down - people have tried sponge of some kind between the pcb and its casing on the bcu I beleive, and that has helped a lot.

I'm desperate to get to the bottom of this on the CDT with the door latches though. I'm not sure if sound proofing foam inside the door card will help at this point. I was hoping opinions have moved on with this, and there was a more successful remedy doing the rounds on here
