Default LED tail light, brake light, reverse light and indicator bulbs

Hi all,

Has anyone tried out any led bulbs for tail lights, brake lights, reverse lights and indicators (front and rear) that they recommend?

Cheers,
Rick

Done them all Rick Reverse aren't canbus so you can fit any leds. The rest need resistors, especially the indicators as they'll flash too fast, doable, but extra wiring etc

Cheers Ronnie does that mean canbus friendly ones like these would still not work without resistors on our cars?

They'll work, but will flash too quickly like halogen bulbs do when one blows. They need a resistor on each bulb. Been there, fitted led indicator/DRLs in the front indicator housing.

Bought LED brake lights, reverse lights and indicators from this member a few years back. No additional resistors needed, and all still working.

There is a discussion on the Fiat forum at the moment about LED bulbs. None have E approval as the approvals go back to 1989 for bulbs. The only ones that are approved are full LED systems that incorporates lens and reflector (they must have an E Mark to be legal though), insurance companies have already refused payouts with non approved lighting. Just seen today on the internet the rules. I for one didn't know.

I used the indicators from this member in my ZT and now in my Megane. Would love to buy some more but can't find them. Did email but no reply

I notice the LED indicators mentioned in the linked thread have 21watt ballasts built in to ensure the correct flash rate. This is separate from the voltage control resistors needed to run from 12volts. So, they'll not save anything in the usual way of LED bulbs saving power. They'll get blistering hot - hence the heat sinks. But they are LEDs, which is the primary draw I guess. LED headlamps have yet to take off in a big way for similar reasons. I simply don't want another set of cooling fans just to run headlamps. I have LED reversers, but that's all that remains from my DIY trials. My pseudo-MG6 tail lamps had to be dimmed with several layers of red filter to get them down to a tolerable brightness. So, having spent a silly amount of money on LEDs over the years, I'm very LED-sceptical.
