Default Car values still going down

I was looking on ebay at completed auction prices for 75's, it makes for miserable reading.

Looks like genuine sales reach a ceiling price of around £700, most of the sales above that value have been listed and won several times in short succession.

A shame as usual, but let's not kid ourselves, these cars are old, thirsty and in high tax brackets. If I wasn't such a fan, I could do better with a £120 deposit £120 a month deal for a new car that does many more miles to the gallon and much less tax, has free insurance, free breakdown cover and so on.

Still, can't quite beat the 75 though, and yet another thing I own that has more value to me than actual commercial value.

Keep them going

i agree, they will keep falling till the value bottoms out, then they'll slowly rise again after a while and reach classic status, the way they get scrapped for silly reasons,it can only push the value of the cars that are left upwards

It would be nice to think my car is worth a lot of money, but it isn't.

Despite its condition, low mileage and unusual spec, it must be worth around £500-£600

Doesn't mean I won't be polishing it as usual

Over ten years old. Mass produced. With a reputation (deserved or not) for unreliability. Not easily turned into Rat, Cafe Chavver or Drift Racer. No 4wd. In the cold light of day it's hardly something the majority of people are going to be fighting to own so it's probably no surprise the prices are falling.

On the other hand spares are still readily available, most of the known issues have been identified and cures found, the vehicles aren't as complicated as legend would have it and there's nothing beats the warm glow of satisfaction associated with sorting one out no matter how long it takes and how much flesh you lose off your knuckles.

this looks a superb car rich, and with a very good spec as well, just needs roof rails to finish it off and sat on the rarer alloys also. nice find

The prices at some dealers seem to be holding their value when I part exchanged my 75 towards my ZTT last year at a dealer it was put up for sale at £3995.

The prices at SMG Rover are still holding their value, does not seem any of the cars have come down in price.

Thanks

Unfortunately previous owner has ripped one of the roof rail captive nuts out of the roof, so without serious surgery they cannot be refitted.

Think I might prefer it without them anyway?

It's a strange market.

Reading historic posts on here reveals people wanting to buy a good one but can't find one. People wanting to sell but no takers.

I happily paid £1600 for mine 12 months ago simply because it was a nice one owner example with full history. I have put as much again into it with all the things I've done (below) but feel I have a lovely car which may be a banger in the eyes of the uninitiated as they drive around in their £300 a month Ford Focus's.

Maybe we should just accept we own one of the best kept secrets and enjoy.
