Project 2016 (Dion's One)

Hi everyone, over the last few months I have been keeping up with reading about a couple of projects on the forum (mostly awvc1's projects), and it has inspired me to document my cars transformation from musty to.... not so musty.

So to start things off just for today I took my filthy door cards off the car, which had mud all over the cloth material and the cream handle around the window switches was horribly yellowed. So after a couple of soapy hours I went from this;

To This!

Cant wait to do some stuff a bit more impressive but with the car waiting for a replacement gearbox and it being stuck a mile away from home, taking off the door cards and cleaning them at home was the best I could do for today!

Over the next couple of days I will;
remove the yellowish stain from the top of the centre console
Wash the entire boot matt (bit mouldy methinks)
Clean and "feed" leather seats

Let me know if anyone has any advice (about anything as I'm pretty clueless

)!

good for you, I will be sure to follow how you get on too mate. Good luck and I hope you enjoy it as much as I've enjoyed getting mine straight.

I also hope you don't have to use quite as many 4 lettered words as I have

I too thoroughly enjoyed following the antics of Awvc1 with his projects and i learned a great deal from him.

Good luck with your project. The door cards have come up well. Are they black or Aubergine?

Believe me there have been plenty of four lettered words, in the short time I've had the car its needed to have the LSM wiring redone due to a burn out, a battery drain which eventually turned out to be the sat nav computer, a new ECU and just found out it needs a new gearbox!

Still, gotta take the rough with the smooth!

They are aubergine, here is a pic of my car to prove it (and show off)

Where did you find it mate? Did you get a bargain? Give us a bit of background on the car if you can?

Those matts look great! I think I will get a set of them, I want it to look as OEM as possible really!

Anyway, Here is a pic or two;

And here is some background on the car;

I bought the car about 4 months ago from a couple selling on behalf of their friend, they didn't really know anything about the car, for example the wife recommended that I should get the cambelt replaced (its a diesel

).

But she was reasonable and for a quick sale I got it for £950. Not a super bargain but its spec makes its quite desirable;
Arran White, Aubergine interior, auto, diesel, sun roof, sat nav...

I knew it had a few things wrong with it (parking sensors, rear sunblind, lined IPK...) but I bought with my heart as opposed to my head. And sure enough I was punished with a long string of problems the most recent of which is a replacement gearbox! But I love the car too much to give up on it (but one more big bill might just push me into the crazy house

)

The car was stored for two years before I bought it, as it was owned by a guy who spent most of his time abroad, I think that's the reason Ive had so many problems since I've owned the car.

Apparently the car was originally used by someone high up in Rover and it left the factory with the number plate W1N IT, I thought that was pretty cool and it was a motivator to buying it.

Recently the car has been given the 160 remap a new inline thermostat and a full service (all Phil-T4), and I plan on getting some other important things done soon, probably the knackered crank idle pulley after the gearbox is sorted.

Anyway thats its background, look forward to getting her tickety-boo!

Yes, I remember it now. That ebay sale caused a bit of a stir at the time because the price kept changing lol.

It looks a great car mate. Will you be at Pride of Longbridge in April. Would be great to see it in the flesh. Loving that white exterior.

Thanks man! I think I will go to Pride of Longbridge, moneys a bit tight after all the work but I should be able to swing it!

Ill defo keep on updating, its good motivation for my lazy self lol!

For the door cloth I just used hot soapy water and a microfibre cloth, all I did was essentially wipe those parts of the door clean as I was worried agitating it with a stiff brush would rip the delicate cloth, it was only for the vinyl parts of the door that I used a stiff brush (a large nail brush to be exact).

I did some more work today, I cleaned the top of the centre console as it was shockingly dirty, it had also yellowed a bit which didn't look too good, Its hard to see in the picture but it was very dirty and it let down the whole car! I used the same large nail brush on this as well, and for the sake of convenience I used Method cleaning spray (just a normal spray you would use to clean the kitchen sides, nothing special) It took about half an hour to get it to look how I wanted but now I am very happy with it.

So just another small job today, but still, humble beginnings!
