Default Is the 75 really a Grandad car?

So, I still occasionally get mocked for driving a Grandad car.

I got my 75 when I was 28.

How many younger drivers are there out there? Who is the youngest? and would anyone else agree with the Grandad car statement? (I know the last owner was surprised my age).

I don't really care what people say. Between the leather, walnut, oval analogue displays, sound system that seems to be tuned to play classical music and fact it's like driving an armchair I love it.

Special respect for the double boot feature. Awesome.

Now I just want it back on the road

I'm under 30 and my uncle (in his 60s) was mocking my choice of car at Christmas. I think he's just jealous because he drives a Volvo.

Tis better to be yourself and do your own thing rather than be a conformist.

You have taste.

Just go along with the joke by putting a blanket, cushion, a pipe and a pair of slippers on the rear parcel shelf

Joke about how you are going to treat your car to a total respray of 'hearing aid brown'.

Anyway, I think there are a few youngsters on here.

I'm not yet drinking at the Old NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD- Saloon, although I can see it coming up further down the street. Last hobby car was a Mitsubishi FTO Yobbomobile which fairly screamed "Futile Quest For Lost Youth". Strange how you often don't have the time or money for a sports car until you're too old to drive one without looking daft. I bought the Rover for pocket money off a dodgy Bulgarian and it's probably going to be this time next year before all the work's finished, but I'm totally addicted. The rumble of the KV6, the gentle creak of the leather, the kick of adrenalin when you wonder what the temperature guage is really trying to say. I can't imagine life without it.

I bought my 75 at 21. Many jokes were made, all went quiet when taken for a spin in the old girl.

Alas I have now jumped ship to a much more fitting ZTT whilst I decide how and if I'll repair my 75 again.

I laugh at all those who finance small eurobox hatches, I paid for my car within two months of their payments.

People can't believe how little I paid for my 75. They bemoan how much they are paying for their brand new car that's often hideous to my eyes.

Then they go on about how expensive it must be to keep up with repairs etc etc

Its still far cheaper than forking out £400 quid a month

I think on initial release of the car it was aimed at a particular age of driver. Young men and women were buying the zr and zs with the 75 being more of a refined no rush car. The 75 and zt are more affordable now and compared to the likes of the 25, the 75 offers way more luxury and comfort over the 25 which is now essentially a 21 year old car that had very few revisions to keep it up to date. The 75 was a completely new platform and it's ashame the company went under as a cabriolet, coupe and fastback version would've looked stunning.

I agree with you Lee, our car cost me less than a grand, and it does 3 miles a day during the week commuting.
Even at weekends it doesn't go far, apart from when we hitch the caravan up and go on holiday, so to'pay £2/300 per month for a car to stand in a car park all day then drive the mile and a half home, is wasted money. If the wife was doing 80/100 miles per week, then perhaps a newer car would be more practical, but the new cars just don't have the feel and look of the 75. Walnut, chrome and leather, compared to black plastic? I know what my choice would be.
There is of course the likes of Jaguar and other top marques that use the walnut trim, if you can afford to buy one

Cool

I'm 33 and got my 75 at 28. It's the car I now feel I should have had right from the start. I don't think its a granddad car at all. Hip-hop and EDM sound great from the Symphony system I actually did get 'wow is that a jag?' from a few girls when I first got it
