Pulled the bonnet pull on the ZT and sklack went the long cable

So despite being cleaned and greased, the cable at the latch end had parted company just where the cable enters the nipple.

Deep joy was had cutting through the striker pin with a hacksaw blade to get the bonnet open

What a crappy job it is to have to pull the entire front off the car to renew what amounts to little more than a pushbike brake cable, and at such reasonable cost too

Ho hum

Surely there's a more permanent solution?

Well I don't know about a more permanent solution Jack, the top and bottom of the matter is simple, the car is 14 years old and has exceeded it's original design life by some margin.

I'm loathed to pay £25 for a barrel nipple cable, and as the outer cable is still ok, I'm going to make a new inner cable up.

Ironically I was discussing this type of failure on Saturday with Alan from Perth WA, nee Sunderland, shame We hadn't been talking about winning the lottery instead

Moved all my tools out of the CDTi as finished using it as a Mobile workshop doing the 260's front struts .. Put some in the 260's boot as working on the rear end doing the rear Struts next ( only repainting )

One of the niceties of a 260, the ease of front strut removal, they should have made all the range the same.

That's what I'm thinking, or where the battery is sitting as the intake manifold may be gone.

Impatiently waiting for the first charger to turn up
