The lockdowns (aka tiers) will end when people stop complying. Until then, they are permanent.

The virus is real, and I appreciate that some people have died due to it. But it still looks like a bad flu season. The lockdown deaths need to be factored in too.

It looks an awful lot like the lockdowns are nothing to do with the virus. We don't do them for similar viruses. We don't ban the use of roads due to the deaths they cause.

Roads have speed cameras that generate revenue, along with motorists who also generate revenue...

My sister in law retired as a nurse in Bradford last week. They have been working flat out (sometimes literally)! She has already extended the time that she needed to work and has now volunteered to go back into work for two (12 hour) days a week to do vaccinations. That is exactly the sort of nurse that you want looking after your loved ones. To anyone who thinks that "lockdown" is hard, you need to do a shift on a Covid ward. How those guys and gals have put themselves at risk (many have caught Covid and some have lost their lives) day in and day out for so long is beyond my comprehension of job satisfaction. It is better to end the year in tiers than in tears. We have to give our "angels" lots of hugs as soon as it is safe to do so. Don't treat this virus lightly. The physical and mental effects of it will go on for many years.

Not a comment aimed at you Andy.
We need more than the roads being busy to generate the revenue needed to sustain the goverment spending during this situation. The time for normality to return has arrived.

How can you beat a virus that constantly mutates, much like the flu (which also incapacitates and kills people of all ages every year), more people are at a long term health risk from postponed procedures and appointments due to the focus on Covid than from the virus itself.

I think we will see an increase of infections and deaths at first as a result of the vaccines availability. Many people mistakenly see it as a "silver bullet" and as a result think its ok to resume their previous way of life. Hope Im wrong but know Im not. Chris.S.

PS How is it that small shops have to close when supermarkets now sell everything? We're going to finish up with deserted High Streets and out of town massive supermarkets.

Like the flu jab you have a yearly top up all virus mutate the other alternative is do nothing is that a better solution?

Most cities have exactly that. We are encouraged to drive our cars to a supermarket or retail park to do all of our shopping. This benefits fuel suppliers, supermarket owners, car suppliers and big business. The losers are the environment, small shop owners and supermarket/retail park suppliers who are cut to the bone. We shop at a local farm shop and butcher when we can. I can see where my food was grown and where the animals grazed. can I taste a difference? Yes. Absolutely. Do I pay more? Yes but it is worth it.
