And now I've found my glasses, a massive gouge in the sill and a nasty pin dent on the drivers door as well as the bottom of the OSR door.

All around the car there are dinks, gouges and the wheels are fresh from a brick cleaner valet at the Albanian car wash complete with streaks and stains, all in all a bit of a dog really.

Nice looking car on the outside. If only I had a spare £1800 and it wasn't a tow-er and wasn't a dog transporter and the boot space wasn't so worn... Guess all that'd clean up OK for someone who's got the time. Enough with the ZT needing a proper clean up!
The Home in the background is mine.(i wish)
It's actually Aston Hall in Birmingham.

Gold does nothing for me either.

I think you have to expect things like this though. In nearly 20 years of being on the road it’s bound to have imperfections

for such low mileage it has had a hard life. It is mega money considering what it is compared to what else is available, but it appears to be poverty spec, an undesirable engine (except among enthusiasts), in an undesirable colour (both matters of opinion, but gold is not a popular colour in general). For this money and mileage, I would not expect the holes in the floor carpet, cigarette burns in the seats, odd serious wear in the boot carpeting (that is bad), grubby rear seats. Grubby wheels that have not been cleaned on the inside, and the redness of them, suggest they have not been cleaned at all for a very long time.

That is along with the dents mentioned before. The reversing camera with no suggestion of a double din (or any kind of stereo!) or a screen, suggests that it has been used for regular towing or someone who could not manage the size of it, and if the mileage is genuine, the clutch cylinders would be another concern. Handbrake is well pulled up too, with the gaiter sitting slightly proud, suggesting it being tightened (but that would be minor)...... and what is with the headliner at the rear??? Is that condensation in the rear left light too?

They are all niggles, but there a lot of niggles and for this money would make me walk away, even the MOT history suggests a lack of maintenance (on its second exhaust, along with the MOT history does suggest the mileage is genuine, but why no images of the engine bay?).

It will be £2/300 auction car sold on mileage, scrubbed up on the surface, that when you go to see it, it looks a lot worse, with marks and scratches all over in and out, along with a nice welcoming smell.

Do you think that picturing it in front of such an imposing and visually complicated building was done on purpose to detract the eye from Brian like scrutiny?

Of course but this should be reflected in the price

As an example I sold my BRG Connoisseur SE 1800T tourer with a full MOT and fully serviced with new belts, fluids, and brakes sitting on matched Dunlop tyres, a car which had never been smoked in and had no dents for £800.

A car that has been mistreated in the way this one obviously has less "kerb appeal" fag burns in the beige cloth seats and banged up bodywork.

A friend sold a couple of weeks ago a Copperleaf 2.5V6 Connoisseur SE with 52K on the clock with an unmarked PPD leather interior, belts done and an MOT with only one advisory for £1200, given the choice which would you prefer to own?

One can forgive dealers for wanting to make a margin, after all they have overheads and are in the business to make a living. They even have legal commitments even on vehicles as old as this, under the Consumer Protection Act.

However there's making a margin and there's taking the p**s. If they've paid a silly buying in price then trying to find a mug to cover their error is unethical, but prevalent. If they are just boosting the margin because they think there are mugs about, then that's also unethical. Again ethics aren't a strong suit in the cheaper end of the motor trade.

Of course, in a self interested way, owners should welcome higher prices, but it has to be said that a few dealers currently trying to sell cars are way out of court.
