The thermostat you have fitted is likely to be damaged in that case

Do the IPK temperature test 19 > 7 to see the actual temperature of the coolant.

It is incredibly easy to distort the mounting of the waxstat bulb of the inline 'stat, which allows coolant to bypass the valve rendering the 'stat useless.

When fitting these, you should remove the top hose and immerse in boiling water to soften, wipe the inside of the hose with liquid hand soap, then use a suitable tube to push the thermostat in to prevent the temptation to push on the wax bulb.

I have a large box spanner that I use to do the job, but a 6" offcut of 32mm plastic waste pipe is an excellent alternative

In hose R5 stat in & working a treat, up to temperature in a couple of miles + heater red hot, many thanks for all of your advice,
I was apprehensive as to the longevity, is it a legitimate fix or a bodge ?
I forgot that A/C T series 200/400/600 cars had an in hose thermostat to make space for the compressor.

5 or 6 years in (with a Wahler branded inline stat), still working a treat - I have a permanent live temperature display also.



A bodge is not an official fix or it is a quick fix, but since this one works, I would call it a legitimate bodge lol.

How do you know when to replace the thermostat mod when I first put it in worked great but seems to be getting slower to warm up do I need to change it again

Check the temps on the obd, I have had my R5 stat fitted inline for the last 7 years and all is well.
