Hairy exhaust!!
The MGZT KV6 produced what looked like hanks of fine grey hair from the exhaust after along run. Yards of it! Presume its fibre glass type material? Apart from it indicating maybe the exhaust needs renewing can anyone suggest which part of the system it might be from- back, middle whatever.? Thanks for your time. Chris .S.

As Tourer says the favourite is the back box due to the internal corrosion of the baffles that retain the sound deadening material.
Don't put up with it for too long because what can happen is that it partially blocks the internal part of the tail pipe, increases back pressure then you won't be going anywhere fast or at all. A clue if you think that this has happened is, whilst stationary, rev the engine at fairly high revs until you note a difference in performance, kill the engine and you will hear a steady hiss as the pressure escapes. A get you home dodge, tools permitting, is to chop a hole in the back wall of the box, about half the wall, rake out the axminster, then off you go, it will be a bit noisier and there may well be a noticeable increase in performance due to the blockage causing a gradual fall off over weeks or days. Excess back pressure, when it occurs, for various reasons, causes much head scratching.

Have to agree. I had the same thing happen with my 406. I rang a garage and they said the packing was coming out of the back box. New one fitted that same day. No more grey hair
Until now, but I am getting on a bit

I've seen quite a few produce hair extensions out of the rear tailpipe, including one of my own

My rear silencer box started spewing horse hair after an mot. Maybe the probe disturbed it when rust had destroyed the inner housing.
