I'm a service engineer so carry a toolcase for work. In addition, as I have a diesel that has now covered 412k miles I carry a spare used but good UBP, cam and crank sensors, clutch bleeding kit with fluid and a serpentine belt with a spanner for the tensioner.
And AA cover from my bank - useful for getting towed off a motorway to a safer place and help to provide a safe method of working under the car. Those spares cover all the common failures for the diesels and are perfectly do-able in a services carpark. |

I keep a couple of Halfords socket sets in the boot also a screwdriver set, Torx set both from Aldi plus a small canvas bag with bulbs, cable ties & various bits & bobs.
Oil & coolant naturally & a small bottle of brake fluid & a syringe with tube to top the clutch up periodically. Though if l do break down l won't try too hard before l get the AA card out. One other thing l just added is a puncture repair kit. A neighbour recently pointed out & instantly repaired a puncture on my 75. It's a doddle & if you can see & remove the offending object you don't even need to remove the wheel. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/353199970636

Mm, not sure about that. I'm happy to repair my (push) bike punctures but drive at motorway speeds on a selfie puncture repair? Rather you than me Claude.

A length of iron wire is a useful addition to the tool kit--handy for securing any bits that come loose including the exhaust

I've done what you suggest a number of times during the last 65 years. Especially on older cars that tended to fall apart quite easily.----- |

Allsorts in my boot that, luckily, I have never needed. "Going equipped" I believe would be the phrase that the officer would use when opening my boot! "It's a Rover!" would be my response, along with a big smile, should get me by without an arrest!
