Nearside rear higher than offside
Hi,
The nearside rear gap between tyre and wheel arch is about 1 cm more than the offside, It can look ok or worse depending on camber of road it's parked on. Tyre pressures all good. Is height determined by the shocker or springs? |

The spring dictates the ride height and I'd be willing to bet you've got broken spring on the lower side. I had exactly the same thing - I noticed a crack one day and when I replaced both springs I found them both to have failed at the bottom, and the car was about an inch lower than it should have been.
It must have passed at least one MoT with broken springs, and I was driving around completely unaware of the problem so that shows how difficult it can be to spot. When you look for replacements, you need to take the rear seat cushion out and check the label underneath it to see what type of springs your car has. They are quite easy to change, no spring compressor needed, the important part is to ensure that the rubber seats are fitted correctly, the top and bottom are different and they can be fitted the wrong way if you are not careful, make sure they are seated on the new springs. The bottom one has a protrusion that needs to be fitted into the mating hole and turned about 90 deg to lock it in, around the edge of this rubber mount you will see 4 slots, make sure one of the slots lines up with the drain hole in the wishbone. Whilst you are in there check the bottom wishbone area for excess corrosion and rust, if all's OK a bit of time wire brushing, rust proofing, painting and possibly a coat of Waxoil or similar will prolong the life of the wishbone, again, make sure the drain hole remains clear. There will be no affect on tracking. As to springs, it appears there can be variations even on the same model and year sometimes, hopefully someone on here with the same car will be able to advise what is on theirs.

While looking for some rear springs I see some advertised with either 'inconstant or constant' wire diameter?
Which ones were originally fitted to the 75? |

Both the springs have been replaced but none were broken.
The nearside was original (RL white) and the offside was KYB RJ6363. Must have been replaced by previous owner. Both were replaced with KYB RJ6363. Sitting equal heights now It was noted that the original was about 1.5 cms longer which was what I was seeing. Last edited by peelaaa; 18th June 2021 at 14:37.. |

Check also for rusted out and collapsing upper rear arm. Hopefully, yours is OK but they can get pretty bad.
