Noisy rear door opening

It's a long while since I've been on here, but I still own the 2002 75 CDT Club Tourer which is still going strong at 223,000 miles, although used far less often these days.

Particularly when I haven't used the car for a while, there's a stiffness and noisy scraping sound when opening the rear doors, presumably because of some loss of lubrication. It seems to me it's coming from where a kind of flat rod slides in and out of a slot as the door is opened/closed. If this is the case what is the best lubrication for this? What do others do to deal with this problem?

That's the check strap, a spray of white grease and work it back and forth a bit should cure it.

Even a spray can of 3 in 1 oil would help.
Being a bit runnier it might reach the squeaky parts easier.---

I have the same problem - very noisy and stiff o/s rear door.

White grease was alreayd applied some time ago, but the noise/stiffness only happens during the "2nd half" of door opening, ie getting it fully open - then you can hardly get it to close again.

I don't think the grease can get far enough in

Any clever ideas...?

Recently bought a MG ZS180 which hadn't been used for years, very stiff rear doors (and locks) - door card off and sprayed everything from the inside, now like new.

Is there anything else other than the check straps which needs to be lubricated?

It does no harm to do the hinges too.

if you are removing the door cards, spray the window cables with a rust penetrating fluid, flush out with WD40 after 10 or 15 mins, then smear a thin layer of grease onto them. A small dab on the shafts and bushes of the cables reels too helps too.

Clean the window channels and rubbers, then spray with a silicone lubricant.

If the doors dont get much use (hence the stiffness), I am guessing the windows dont either.
