Hi,

I’ve visited the forum in the past while searching around for info. I’ve just got my sons ZT 190+ back on the road after 5 years parked on my drive (it’s mine now)

Brief history, my son bought the car some 14 years ago on impulse, it was a part exchange where he worked as as a body technician but they wouldn’t sell it to him! So, not to be denied, he found out where it was being auctioned and bought it at the auction!

He had not been looking for an MG but it was a very nice special build with red alcantara seat inserts and red dashboard with sun blind and tv/satnav etc. In a very nice metallic black/blue paint. It was his pride and joy until persistent water leaking problems finally took it off the road and he bought a Jaguar X350!

In the same time period I have owned 2 other 190+s that I drove for a time (1 that we still have for spares)

Our first passion has always been for Jaguars or Fords, he has a Sierra Cosworth and I have several Granadas (all now laid up, awaiting restoration, one day'!) and my most recent car is a BMW E46 which developed a serious water problem about 4 weeks ago which prompted the decision to finally resurrect the 190. The water problems on the 190 had been sorted out well over a year ago with new water pump and timing belts but it just didn’t quite get back on the road, until 3 weeks ago when I sorted out the blowing cat, blasted and painted the brake disks and it passed its MOT.

It’s driving very well, with over 600 miles on the clock since the MOT and when my son drove it last week, he prefers it over his Jaguar! (It feels more ‘planted’ on the road).

I’m now starting to bring it back to its original pristine condition as it has suffered some deterioration over the last 5 years (rusty suspension and a bit of rust on the sill ends but driving it a real pleasure, goes like stink and sticks to the road like glue!

We have a fair amount experience, having over the years changed/removed timing belts at least 4 times, fitted thermostats, a clutch, disks, springs, bottom arms, inlet manifolds, VIS motors, the list goes on, plus I made a tool to press in the camshaft end seals that I will post about if anyone is interested.

Sorry if I’ve gone on a bit

Bob
