Scrapyard diesel 75
I live next door to a busy working scrapyard and sadly yesterday i spotted a silver diesel 75 waiting its turn for the crusher. Apparently it was running and driving before being unceremoniously moved by stabbing it with a forklift ! Luckily i get on well with the owners so spent several very hot hours today stripping lots of parts , including the walnut dash, door pillar trims which my pre production needs, and as many bits and pieces as I could remove.
It wasnt practical to salvage the engine and gearbox but i got what i could off the body, including the brake calipers. Made me feel sad seeing such a stylish car on death row amongst all the soul less Euro boxes ! |

Yes they usually do but are exceptionally busy at the moment. Some time ago they sold me a lovely Atlantic blue 1.8 Club which was in the scrap because the wipers didnt work and the owner's garage had said it was not possible to repair. I tested the motor and switches, took out the body control module and had it tested, in the end I took it to Exeter Road Garage who very skillfully diagnosed a broken wire under the nearside wheel arch ! Fixed and Mot and back on the road !

pretty sad indictment of society when a perfectly good car gets scrapped for a windscreen wiper not working properly because it cost to much to fix!!

Indeed we live in a throw away world. The scrapyard is stacked up with cars (of lesser makes)! which with a bit of work could go back on the road, each would be another new car that hasn't got to be built.
Two sayings that I hear in the motor trade : 'it aint worth fixing mate' and ' I am not appathetic, I just cant be bothered' ! ! Just about sums it up. |

Mate of mine is a mechanic, one man band who'd rather repair something than replace. He was telling me a lot of young mechanics have no idea how to investigate a problem if the diagnostic computer doesn't tell them what to do.

To be fair though, it is not the fault of a tech. College or student, but rather the design of the product (be it a car or phone - my dad, ex bt engineer, still has parts, electrical and mechanical for the old rotary style phones). Sent from my SM-A600FN using Tapatalk
