It would be our local MGR guy doing it if it ever came to it, so he knows what he's doing, but would it be practical? Gearbox/ECM swap... anything else?

Thanks

It would be cheaper, if it went again, to find out why the replacement slaves have lasted such a short time, bearing in mind that many go to 150,000 and more without failing.

Poor quality items, poor fitting and the favourite often mentioned on here is failure to replace the slave guide at the same time.

Yeah... first time it failed was after I drove down a very long, steep, windy road to find it blocked at the bottom by the Council, who helpfully had only posted a sign at that end. Took me about ¾ of an hour reversing up in little stages, trying not to scratch the car on the dry stone walls, tight on each side - endless clutch slipping. Don't know for sure that caused it, but everything was overheating badly - the car stank for weeks, and it went a few months after that.

That time it was replaced at enormous cost by a local garage who turned out to be cowboys, but lasted for 5 or 6 years, then the telltale thrust bearing (or whatever it's called nowadays) noise began - I gambled with it for several months, then got it replaced. The metal (TAZU?) replacement lasted only a few thousand miles.

Our MGR man got the kit replaced for free, though out of warranty, and split the labour costs with me. Think it's LuK or similar now, and has lasted 2 years so far.

Kind of a long "wheeee..." noise as you depress the pedal
